IAN DUNCAN (Lord Duncan of Springbank)

Consulting partner

Appointed a working peer by the prime minister in 2017, Ian Duncan served in each of the UK government’s territorial ministries (Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and finally as UK climate minister. Prior to joining the government, he worked for over a dozen years in Brussels, latterly as MEP for Scotland. His focus then was energy, environment and climate change, and he led the reform of the EU carbon markets. Previously, Duncan worked for BP, the Scottish Refugee Council, the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation and taught at the University of Bristol. Duncan currently serves as deputy speaker of the House of Lords. He is also chair of the National Forest and the Confederation of Forest Industries, and sits on the board of a number of companies and charities, including the Schwarzenegger Institute and the Court of St Andrews University.

Please note: Ian’s appointment has been approved by the UK government’s advisory committee on business appointments (ACOBA). His work for us, as a strategic consultancy, will focus on analysis and advice relating to the European Union, and on environmental matters. This is fully compliant with ACOBA guidance, which makes clear that he is not permitted to undertake any lobbying, which was never the intention.
