What really goes on in the room where it happens? What do those leaders who have shaped some of the most historic episodes of the 21st century really think? And what insight can an editor of the world’s most important business newspaper bring to us here in Edinburgh?
To answer these questions, Charlotte Street Partners is delighted to invite you to a discussion in conversation with Lionel Barber, editor of the Financial Times between 2005 and 2020 and author of the new book, The Powerful and the Damned.
Collecting Lionel’s personal reflections and conversations with those at the helm of our unfolding global drama over several decades – from Trump, Cameron, Blair, Obama, Putin, Merkel, Draghi and May to Prince Andrew, Mohammed Bin Salman and Dominic Cummings – The Powerful and the Damned offers unparalleled insight into the halls of power and is available now.
Lionel Barber is one the world’s most respected editors, having led the Financial Times between 2005 and 2020. During his tenure, the FT transformed itself from a print-led newspaper into a global, multichannel news organisation, building its current audience of over one million paying readers and winning multiple awards for its journalism. These include UK Newspaper of the Year three times, as well as Overseas Press Club, Gerald Loeb and Society of Publishers in Asia awards. He is a recipient of France’s Legion d’Honneur, onetime staff member at our city’s own newspaper, The Scotsman, and also host of LBC’s new weekly podcast, What Next?
