Explaining the sometimes byzantine world of Scottish politics and the policy landscape to leaders of organisations – and interpreting what it means as best I can – may be a minority pursuit but it isn’t trivial. It’s something I hugely enjoy, after many years both with Charlotte Street Partners and previously working as an adviser to the Scottish government and communications director for the SNP.
Helping people present themselves and get across vital information may see me providing some presentation training, whether for a media grilling or an appearance before a parliamentary committee.
A close interest in policy is why I’m pleased to be a trustee of Reform Scotland, a non-partisan think tank. At home in Inverclyde, I like to walk the local moors with my two young children and gaze out across the Firth of Clyde to Argyll and the hills beyond – still trying to work out what it all means.
